What is a Showerdome?
A Showerdome is a sleek, inexpensive acrylic dome that fits above your shower. It stops warm moist air in your shower cabinet mixing with cool air in the bathroom, which stops your bathroom filling with mist.
How does a Showerdome Work?
In a bathroom, steam causes condensation to build on mirrors and surfaces that can lead to mould or mildew forming.

Extractor fans can sometimes help but do not prevent condensation forming on the ceilings, walls and furnishings. They actually create more steam by sucking cold air into the bathroom to replace the warm air forced out.

Mist or ‘steam’ is created when warm moist air mixes with cold air. Think of your breath on a cold day as an example. The mist is not created until it leaves your mouth and comes into contact with cool air. The same thing happens in your bathroom. The mist only forms when warm moist air comes into direct contact with cool air just above your head. Showerdome, creates a physical barrier between the toasty warm air in the shower and the cooler air in the bathroom. It’s simple physics, if the warm and cold air cannot touch each other, the mist won’t form. Showerdome does not try deal with the symptom (steam/excess moisture) it takes care of the problem, by preventing the steam forming in the first place! As a result of no more steam in your bathroom, your whole house becomes warmer, dryer and you will save money . How? Well for a start you can turn off your extracter fan and close the window. According to current building code, a newly built house must have in its bathroom a fan capable of moving 25 litres per SECOND of air. Thats 25 litres of warm air, (fans are usually placed high on the wall, where the warmest air is) air that had to be heated through heat pump, wood burner, heat lamp or whatever heat sources you use. Your house becomes dryer so heat is not lost by drying damp air. Hot water consumption is reduced because you need a lower temp to be more comfortable (because the shower becomes enclosed, all the air inside becomes warm so you feel warm from the water on one side and warm from the air everywhere else. Excessive moisture will sooner or later lead to costly and time consuming repairs, frequent repainting, rotten windows as well as mould and mildew. In the long run Showerdome will pay for itself.

The big advantage of buying from Uppercut Firewood is that you can have a look first before you buy. Just visit us at the yard at 3 Morris Road and check out our firewood for yourself.

Off-season Firewood
From November till March we sell our cut-to-order wood. Yes, it is green but it can be stacked and dried, and it is cheaper to buy this way as we load straight into the truck. This is a great chance for people with smaller or larger fire boxes to get wood cut to the length you require.
The best guarantee for dry fire wood is to buy early and stack and dry yourself.

Types of firewood
We sell Pine, and Oregon and Blue gum when we can get hold of it.
Pine is great for open fires as it does not spark. It is a quick burning wood that will generate moderate to good heat. Pine is suitable for both open fires and log burners. As a firewood, the older the tree – the better the burning properties; especially in trees 30yrs+, the so called “Old Man Pine”. Trees 30yrs+ can contain a high content of resin/gum which is a flammable product. Whatever the age, pine is a hot burning wood.
Oregon is very popular. It is more expensive than the pine but burns very well. The heat output from Oregon (Douglas Fir) is much better than pine. Very clean burning, almost no ashes and very easy to split. Very clean firewood.
We do not have any Blue Gum available at the moment.
Uppercut Firewood has resource consent to process, store and sell firewood. The bins on our truck have been TSS registered and stamped that they are actual measures of the wood we are selling.

You will get a free box of kindling for every 4 meter of firewood you order. We have extra boxes available at $7.50 per box.
We sell clean saw dust (wood shavings) at $10.00 per trailer load. These shavings are ideal for mulching, composting or as animal bedding. It absorbs moisture (and smell) very easily and is very easy to work with.
